Dear MCA Members,
Thank you to all who attended the November meeting. The meeting was called to order by our association president Joe Morris. Joe discussed more about the adjuster’s appreciation night, toys for tots next month and requested that members bring an unwrapped gift, as well as if there are any other recommendations for the Christmas party next month to let Joe know. The Christmas part is tentatively scheduled for December 17, 2019 at Judy’s Place from 6 pm – 9 pm. Joe introduced our guest speaker, Will Sellers of the Mobile County Emergency Management Center.
Mr. Sellers presented a great slide presentation to the association. He focused on what Mobile County EMA does and discussed emergency evacuation. He stated we must make sure that we prepare for, prevent, and respond to disasters in the mobile county community. They are in process of moving into their new EMA building and their old building will serve as a back-up for 911. Mr. Sellers spoke on their incident control system, better known as ICS. When it’s a disaster the incident commander shows up first who then goes down to the chain of contacts after finding out the situation and their recommendations of what is needed on any type of hazard. EMA is on the spot in hurricane preparedness. EMA follows on mass care which is one of the important emergency functions is to always plan and prepare is their motto. Mr. Sellers further discussed other important keys during the time of a disaster is to stay alert, via TV, radio, news, computers, smart phones and apps, and develop a family/business disaster plan now. Mr. Sellers also discussed a variety of resources that the EMA has available. Thank you, Mr. Sellers, for your great informative topics.
Our meeting was concluded with door prizes donated by some of our association members and guest. Jersey Mike gift cards donated by Sandy Cooke, $20 cash door prize donated by Chuck Stewart, Artic tumbler donated by Robert Uhler and two beautiful handmade bracelets donated by a guest, Sharon Potts.
